Michael Jackson will be buried in a $25,000 (£15,300) gold casket in a funeral that is set to become the greatest show on Earth.
His coffin, a rare design called the Promethean, is made of solid bronze but is 14-carat gold-plated with a hand-polished mirror finish and lined with velvet.
It was ordered last night from America 's Batesville Casket Company and is identical to the coffin used to bury James Brown in 2006, according to TMZ, which first broke the news of the King of Pop's death.
Jackson will be buried in a $25,000, solid bronze, 14-karat gold plated, custom casket similar to the one James Brown was also buried in
Jackson's send-off on Tuesday will begin at the LA Lakers basketball team's home court, the Staples Centre. He rehearsed there for his planned comeback concerts at The O2 just two days before his death, and 11,000 tickets will be distributed free to the general public.
Up to a million people are expected to gather at the venue which will erect giant screens outside for those who cannot get in for the 10am service. The Center can accomodate 20,000 people.

The memorial will feature performances and tributes from a host of music and acting legends and will open with a parade

Michael Jackson's golden coffin was placed in front of the stage at his memorial as a choir sang.

Several of Jackson's older brothers served as pallbearers, carrying the coffin to the stage as the Andrae Crouch choir sang "Soon and Very Soon."

The stage at the Staples Center resembled a church sanctuary with a stain-glassed backdrop, CNN reported.

Mariah Carey was joined by Trey Lorenz singing The Jackson 5's 1970 hit "I'll Be there" as a montage of Jackson photographs appeared on arena screens.

Actress Queen Latifah, saying she was on stage to represent "millions of fans inspired by Michael," said "Michael was the biggest star on earth." Lionel Richie then performed the song "Jesus is Love."

Smokey Robinson earlier read personal messages from several of Jackson's celebrity friends who could not attend including Diana Ross and Nelson Mandela.
